Background

I started building this website after my grandmothers (my dad's mom, Mary; my mom's mom, Jean; and my mom's grandma, Olivia) passed away within weeks of each other in early 2005. These were not the first deaths in my life - I lost my father, Jammie, and my nana Carol when I was six, and my grandfather Lorne to Alzheimer's in 2001. This site is a pet project to help myself come to terms with the grief I have been trying to deal with over the last fifteen years.

The purpose of Memoria is remembrance. Visitors can share stories about their loved ones or anyone else important they've lost. Grief is a powerful emotion, and it is very important to express it. The road to recovery after a loss is long and painful, and everyone is allowed to cry or scream, but also to laugh. The aim of this site is to serve as an outlet for all the pain and anxiety that comes with death, and to help us remember happier times.

Be advised that the webmaster is not a mental health professional or a doctor. I'm just someone who has experienced a lot of pain in my short life, especially within the last few years, and writing helps me cope with that.

If you ever feel that your pain is overwhelming you to the point where you're considering harming yourself or others, please call a physician or an ambulance immediately.
